Mallorca 312 here I come !

Mallorca 312 here I come !

Its been a long time since I did a big sportive challenge ride, my last one was back in 2015 when I did the Marmotte in France. I have done other big rides since then, but not a big international event like that. We recently went to Nice in France for Carolyn’s debut at a Ironman 70.3 and it inspired me to get off my backside and sign up for another. I needed a big target to aim towards in order to provide the motivation to shift this COVID weight I’ve gained.

The 312 is a hilly route around the mountains of Mallorca equalling 312km or 194miles. The thing that makes the 312 so special is that it’s run entirely on closed roads, so zero cars, lorries or tourist buses to cause issues…not to mention Mallorca is famous for it’s smooth roads.

It’s run at the end of April which gives me a solid 7 months to prepare. My initial target is to hit 95kg by xmas, then 80kg by April. Starting weight is a horrendous 110kg, so I’m looking at 30kg of fat to lose. This means a strict sub 2000 calories per day (500 deficit) alongside at least an hour of exercise per day, either cycling or MMA. I’m not going to lie, this is going to be a tough journey but one that I both need to make and want to make. I’m sick of not being able to get into all the nice clothes I own, not being able to ride the way I want or feeling guilty for eating. The lowest I have ever been was around 90kg in 2013, so this will be quite the change. This blog will record my journey alongside other titbits of home life and tech stuff I’m doing.

I’m so glad I’ve started….and am looking forward to better things and health in 2023.
